The Story

Welcome to Well Hello Mollie!  This website is a place for us to document and share our experiences of pregnancy, parenthood and to tell Mollie’s story… as it develops.

We (Jaime and Ed) were married in 2001. At some point, about three years in, we stopped trying to not have a baby. We weren’t necessarily actively trying to have one, we just stopped trying to prevent one.  This was a new situation for which there really isn’t a good analogy. It was as if we had been actively trying to not buy a new car and one day decided to stop actively trying to not buy a new car; either one would show up or it wouldn’t.

As it turned out, one didn’t show up (baby, not car -we’ve had several different cars since then). We started to get curious as to why kids hadn’t shown up. After all, we had stopped trying to prevent them and were reasonably familiar with the activities that lead to their arrival but for eight years, nothing. It hadn’t become something we were concerned about, mostly just curious; was something wrong, was it something we were doing or not doing, were we unlucky, lucky, did we have bad timing? etc etc.

In February 2011 Jaime had a routine doctor’s appointment. When asked if she was pregnant, she answered “no”. And since she couldn’t remember the exact date of her last period,  a pregnancy test was administered. The result was positive.Unfortunately, our excitement was cut short; within a couple days, it was over. The little life was only the size of a sweet pea. Had Jaime not been to the doctor, we wouldn’t have known. The effect was that we immediately knew that we did, in fact, want to complicate our lives with the addition of new, helpless and utterly dependent members to our family.  Sweet Pea changed our lives.

With the knowledge pregnancy  was possible, we  started paying close attention to cycles and schedules (with the help of a handy iPhone app) and the next time everything lined up was June….
